Bio

B.Sc. - BACHELOR in Chemistry -Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1973.
M.Sc. - MASTER in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1975. 
The results of his researches on Oxidation at High Temperatures developed at the laboratories of the Commission of Atomic Energy of France (CEA) during four years led him to obtain, in 1980, his title as
Dr.Ing. - DOCTORATE in Chemical Engineering - Uller obtained this title at National Superior School of Chemistry – University of Paris VI Sorbonne, France, 1980.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CORROSION FIELD:
Uller spent the last 40 years teaching, researching, and consulting services related to materials engineering and corrosion. He accumulated a broad professional experience working in different segments, such as universities and research centers / international certification companies like Bureau Veritas and SGS / international agencies like OAS- American States Organization and UNITED NATIONS (PNUDI and UNIDO), National Research Council of Brazil as well advising on important  Brazilian government programs like NUCLEAR and  PROALCOOL. He was an adviser of the Ministry of Science and Technology for the International Cooperation, missions, and agreements of Science and Technology with other countries.

ULLER is the Owner and CEO of SURPLUS, a Brazilian company committed to Corrosion Consulting Services, Inspection, Training, and Representations. After 1988, he focused on his own consulting and service companies, on technical audits, engineering solutions, and advising foreign companies to introduce new products as a partner or as a representative of CORTEST, POLYCORP, and CASTAGRA. 

CONTRIBUTIONS TO NACE:
Uller has been a NACE member for 38 years and gave his contribution to:

  • NACE Brazil Section: as Founder of the Section in 1994 and Chairman. 
  • NACE Latin American Region: Vice Chairman, Chairman, and Trustee.
  • Ever since the 1st Long Range Strategic Plan (1996- 1997) – he has been dedicated to NACE internationalization.
  • LATINCORR – As President of AICOP, he proposed the NACE Latin America Corrosion Seminar with the Iberoamerican Corrosion Congress held by AICOP, originating the LATINCORR Congress.
  • As International Area Director, he represented Latin America twice (1999-2002 and 2011 to 2013). During this period, he contributed to the opening of new sections in Chile, Ecuador, Peru and started opening the Bolivia section.
  • NACE Nominating Committee – member from 2007 to 2009.
  • From 2008 to 2017, his company SURPLUS was licensed by NACE and offered the CIP-Coatings Inspector Program in Brazil for the first time.
  • Nowadays, he is the Trustee of the Brazilian Section.

MAIN PROFESSIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS
Ø Created the Corrosion Group of the NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (1980) in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.
Ø Contributed to the corrosion solution by hydrated ethanol in motors and circuits of the cars moved with this fuel (leading INT Corrosion Group and network of research centers) (1980-1985) in Brazil.
Ø Created and led an Iberoamerican Program (21 countries) on Corrosion and Environmental Impact on Materials (1988 -2000).
Ø Deputy General Secretary of the CYTED - Iberoamerican Program of Science and Technology for Development, indicated, in 2003, by the Brazilian Government.
Ø Led the organization of the first corrosion research & expedition to the Antarctic continent (1991)
Ø Pioneered the first online corrosion monitoring of an oil pipeline inside the Amazon forest (1996)
Ø Conceived with the governments of the six Amazon countries supported by the Amazon Treaty Organization (OTCA), a Joint Program of satellite control of the Amazonic region (2004 – 2007)
Ø Has advised on the corrosiveness of alcohol E85 fuel ­invited by UL - Underwriters Lab (Chicago) and US Dept. of Commerce (2007)
Ø Led the Technical Secretary of the Petroleum & Gas Sectorial Fund – CTPETRO and the creation of the Center for Management and Strategic Studies – CGEE (1999-2002)
Ø Led the Study of a Supply Chain to construct 4 Nuclear Plants of the Brazilian Nuclear Program(2010).

  • "COMENDADOR” (Commander) of the Order of Cartographic Merit in dependencies of Brazilian Navy (2015)

PAST CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PROFESSIONAL TECHNICAL ASSOCIATIONS:

  • Representative of Brasil in the INTERNATIONAL CORROSION COUNCIL (ICC).
  • President and Chairman of the Council of the BRAZILIAN CORROSION ASSOCIATION (ABRACO).
  • President of the IBERO AMERICAN CORROSION AND PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (AICOP).
  • Council Member of the BRAZILIAN SOCIETY OF CARTOGRAPHY, GEODESY, PHOTOGRAMMETRY AND REMOTE SENSING (SBC).


OTHERS:

  • Authored more than 100 technical communications and 60 Lectures in Brazil and abroad.
  • Co-author of 4 books and 2 Patents.
  • Speaks Portuguese, French, Spanish, and English.
