I first had interest in corrosion when I was 17 and choosing which undergraduate course to follow. I took Applied Chemistry with a significant corrosion content, and it set me up for a life-time career! I've worked in failure investigation and consultancy, identified gaps and Joint Industry Projects to address these with global companies plus managed teams of post-graduates and technicians in commercial R&D and testing. Mainly involved in aqueous corrosion mush of my time has been in support of the performance of metallic materials (and weldments) in upstream oil & gas applications. I lead the MR0175/ISO15156 workshops and prior to becoming staff in 2019, accumulated many hours as a member volunteer in support of our organisation in many technical committees (under STG32) and board committees (Policy Committee, Nominating Committee, plus the inaugural Policy & Practices Committee for the Institute). As staff I continue to engage with members and students, particularly in Europe and keep a involved with the MR0175/ISO15156 rewrite process.
I am happy to discuss the scope of corrosion in materials selection, design, and ramifications for operation/achieving asset life etc.
