Blended Program

NACE is now delivering a virtual alternative to CP1 that students can take anywhere. Don’t put your learning on hold due to recent disruptions. Learn from home, or wherever you are, with the new CP1 Blended Program. Led by the same trusted CP Certified NACE instructors, only virtually.

So what does a blended program look like?

Part I (Virtual Classroom) of the course is provided online over a two-day period, in a virtual classroom with a live instructor. Part II (Practical Classroom) of the course is 3 days of in-person instruction with hands-on training, including using equipment and instruments for CP testing. Check back frequently as the in-person courses are now being scheduled in certain areas.  We are adding new locations as restrictions are being lifted in each region

Virtual Classroom:

Part I of the course is provided online over a two-day period in a virtual classroom with a live instructor. This program benefits anyone responsible for supervising CP systems, measuring the effectiveness of CP systems, and/or recording this data, including:

  • CP field personnel
  • Technicians

Learning Objectives

  • Define how polarity is related to current flow and metal corrosion activity
  • Define CP components including impressed current systems, galvanic anodes, and test stations
  • Recall the use, maintenance, and precautions for reference cells
  • Utilize basic location mapping, report preparation, and record keeping
  • Recognize safety issues specific to CP
  • Recall code requirements related to CP

Students will receive the same manual, reference material, and coursework such as exercises, quizzes, and activities you would receive in our traditional in-person classroom courses.

Practical Classroom:

You will perform the in-person, hands-on traning, including using equipment and instruments for CP testing. Practical sessions are now being scheduled in adherence with CDC and WHO guidelines so you can complete Part ll of the blended program. Learning objectives include:

  • Conduct tests to identify shorts and continuity tests in CP systems
  • Use test instruments to perform a variety of field tests such as structure-to-soil potentials, voltage and current measurements, soil resistivity, pipe/cable locating, and rectifier readings
  • Read shunts and recognize their use in rectifiers, bonds, and anodes
  • Perform periodic surveys to confirm the effectiveness of a CP system

Course Completion

Successful completion of the course is required to earn a certificate of course completion. Requirements are specific to each course and may include a combination of attendance, daily assessments, activities, quizzes, or knowledge checks.

End of course exam

A practical exam is administered at the end of the Cathodic Protection Blended Program – CP1 Practical Classroom course. You will need to register separately for this course after completing the virtual classroom course. Successful completion of the exam is required to earn a certificate of completion.

Certification requirements

Visit NACE International Institute for individual certification requirements. Requirements are specific to each certification and may include a combination of exams, application, course completion, work experience and proof of educational achievements. All certification and renewal applicants will be required to complete the NACE International ethics training program OR an equivalent training and provide proof of completion as part of the certification application or renewal process.
