AMPP and ABDAN Sign Memorandum of Understanding, Commence New Partnership

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Today leaders from the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) met with leadership of the Brazilian Association for the Development of Nuclear Activities (ABDAN) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize a cooperative relationship focused on promoting corrosion control programming and quality requirements for Brazil’s nuclear energy sector. The agreement was signed by AMPP Global Center’s Executive Director, Cynthia O’Malley and ABDAN’s president, Celso Cunha today during the nt2e - Nuclear Trade & Technology Exchange conference.

“On behalf of AMPP’s members and leadership, I would like to extend our appreciation as we embark on this mutually beneficially relationship with ABDAN,” said Joyce Wright, AMPP Global Center Chair. “This is a significant step toward a better and safer nuclear energy future for Latin America. By signing this MOU, AMPP and ABDAN are committed to supporting each other in a variety of areas including technical exchanges, training, and member engagement, among other opportunities we will explore as our partnership progresses.”

The MOU is designed to facilitate communications and access to resources including AMPP’s products, programs and services available to ABDAN’s membership which includes Brazilian companies and governmental organizations involved in the country’s nuclear activities.
“This is an important agreement for ABDAN and for the sector. Corrosion-related themes are crucial issues in the nuclear segment,” said Celso Cunha, president of ABDAN. “The more partners we manage to gather at this time of resumption of the Brazilian Nuclear Program, the faster we will be able to advance in the sector. It is very important to establish partnerships in different areas."

Part of a global initiative, AMPP is working with several organizations worldwide to advance corrosion safety through similar partnerships that will ultimately benefit all countries and organizations connected with the association.

“We look forward to sharing a productive relationship with ABDAN and working together to extend the useful life of Latin America’s nuclear assets and ensure public and environmental safety," said Wright.
