ANSI/NACE SP0607-2007/ISO 15589-2 (MOD),

“Petroleum and natural gas industries—Cathodic protection of pipeline transportation systems—Part 2: Offshore pipelines.” Pipeline cathodic protection is achieved by the supply of sufficient direct current to the external pipe surface, so that the steel-to-electrolyte potential is lowered to values at which external corrosion is reduced to an insignificant rate. ANSI/NACE SP0607-2007/ISO 15589-2 (MOD) specifies requirements and gives recommendations for the pre-installation surveys, design, materials, equipment, fabrication, installation, commissioning, operation, inspection and maintenance of cathodic protection systems for offshore pipelines for the petroleum and natural gas industries as defined in ISO 13623. This standard is applicable to carbon and stainless steel pipelines in offshore service, retrofits, modifications and repairs made to existing pipeline systems, and to all types of seawater and seabed environments encountered in submerged conditions and on risers up to mean water level.

triangle  REFIN*COR 8.0: Fifty Years of Shared Data Solutions
      to Refinery Corrosion Problems

Upgraded in 2007, REFIN*COR 8.0 is a database that compiles real-life experiences in the refining industry. Problems that refining industry corrosion engineers encounter are addressed, and solutions are provided. REFIN*COR 8.0 includes the technical information exchange (TIE) portions of NACE Technology Exchange Group (TEG) 205X meetings from 1957 through 2006. The information from earlier editions of REFIN*COR, plus two more years of TIEs, are available in Adobe Acrobat format, enhancing its compatibility with many companies’ requirements and allowing ease of use.

REFIN*COR 8.0 also includes:

  • Acronym index
  • Technical papers index
  • Napthenic acid corrosion literature survey conducted by NACE Task Group T-8-22
  • Alloy index
  • Trademark index
  • An index of meeting locations and dates for ease in matching specific information

Search all files from 1957 to 2006 for information on a specific topic:

REFIN*COR 8.0 allows users to enter key words and search all files from 1957 through 2006 for information on a particular topic. This is done by clicking on the “Edit” menu at the top of the screen, then choosing “Search.” This will bring up a bar that allows the user to enter key words. After doing so, the user should then click the “All PDF documents in” bullet below the key word bar, then type in the path C:/Program Files/refincor 8.0. Adobe Acrobat will bring up a list of all entries containing the key words.

 triangle How Technical Committees Work

  • Many of NACE’s members participate in the activities of more than 350 NACE technical committees.  The committees serve as the technical arm of the Association.
  • Committee members develop NACE standards, reports, and other publications, and conduct informative meetings, symposia, and open forums to exchange state-of-the-art technical information.
  • Technical committees meet at NACE’s Annual Conference, at Corrosion Technology Week, and during the year as often as necessary to conduct business.

MR0175/ISO 15156 Maintenance Panel Updates

Users of NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, "Petroleum and natural gas industries—Materials for use in H2S-containing environments in oil and gas production," can now keep up-to-date with activities of the Maintenance Panel for this standard via a link from the NACE Web site to the ISO LiveLink Web site.  Click here for more information.

CEN Adopts ISO 15156

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) adopted ISO 15156, “Petroleum and natural gas industries—Materials for use in H2S-containing environments in oil and gas production,” Parts 1, 2, and 3 as European Standards EN ISO 15156-1, -2, and -3 for identical national implementation in all 29 member countries of CEN. EN ISO 15156 replaces any former national standards in the CEN member countries.

ISO 15156 is derived from and is technically equivalent to former NACE Standard MR0175, and NACE had previously adopted it back as NACE MR0175/ISO 15156. NACE administers a Maintenance Panel (MP) that responds to inquiries on the standard and proposes revision to it. Four technical corrigenda (addenda) have been published as a result of 15 ballots approved by the MP, NACE Task Group 299, which oversees the MP, and ISO/TC 67/WG 7. All are available from NACE as part of the main standard or as a separate package.
