NACE International New Orleans Section Vice Chair Charlie Speed (right) welcomes NACE President Lou Vincent and his wife Mary to the section’s January 28 luncheon meeting.

NACE International President Lou Vincent and his wife Mary were honored guests at the New Orleans Section’s January 28 luncheon meeting at the Holiday Inn Superdome. Vincent made a state-of-the-art presentation on the opportunities for corrosion engineering education and NACE education programs to approxi-mately 40 section members and guests.

The section holds regular luncheon meetings on the fourth Monday of each month. This year, the section has awarded or designated more than $67,000 to educational efforts in the field of corrosion, including $20,000 to the University of New Orleans, $20,000 to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, donations to the New Orleans Science Fair, and scholarships to local university students. In addition, the New Orleans Section Board has designated funds to sponsor an ASM/NACE materials/corrosion camp targeted for Summer 2009.

For more information on the section’s activities, see the New Orleans Section Web site in the “About NACE” area of www.nace.org.(—Charlie Speed)

Tulsa Section Chair Rod Einer (left) and Vice Chair Hejian Sun present a $10,000 donation
NACE International Tulsa Section Chair Rod Einer (left) and Vice Chair Hejian Sun present a $10,000 donation to NACE Foundation President Elaine Bowman that will go toward funding a local science teachers’ camp.

The NACE Tulsa Section recently donated $10,000 to the NACE Foundation during its January 28 meeting. This is the second $10,000 donation the section has awarded the Foundation in the last two years for the purpose of helping fund a local science teachers’ camp. The NACE Foundation and the ASM Materials Education Foundation jointly sponsor a materials science camp at Tulsa’s McClain School of Science & Technology in July for science teachers in the Tulsa metro area. Participating teachers receive the Foundation’s cKit, a toolkit that contains materials for a series of challenging corrosion-related experiments, as well as the recommended curriculum for easy implementation into the classroom teaching program.(—John Cole)
