Flexible Pricing Options for Sections Outside the U.S. and Canada

Whether a course is run by NACE HQ or run by a local Section, it is important that members attending the course feel that either event is comparable to the other, in terms of organization, quality and price.

NACE members worldwide should be given one price for NACE courses. When local members are charged more than other NACE members for the same training course/certification, the local members feel cheated by NACE. Nonetheless, there are cases where there are pricing options.

Case #1: Meal Add-ons

NACE prices are set for U.S. and Canadian courses, where meals are not offered to students inclusive of their registration fees. In some countries outside of the U.S. and Canada, it is unacceptable not to offer meals with a course registration. Thus, Sections offering courses in these countries may add on to the price of the registration fees charged by NACE, and keep the added revenue. The add-on amount must be equal to the estimated amount charged to the Section for the meals. A Section may not profit from offering meals with registrations (again, considering the local members? viewpoint that prices should be the same in all of NACE).

If meal add-ons are made, it must be so noted in the Agreement with Headquarters, and all marketing material must communicate to members that the meal add-on is being included in the price of the registration fee to the public.

Case #2: Consumer Price Index (CPI) Comparisons

When Sections request that prices be raised:
In cases where the CPI shows prices in the host country (not city) to be at least 35% higher than in the U.S., the prices can be adjusted to be either (1) equal to the CPI difference, or (2) 200% of the NACE price, whichever is smaller. HQ Finance Division will follow up on Section requests to consider the CPI and use a standard CPI to determine if a mark-up is allowed. A Section requesting to exceed these guidelines should contact HQ, which will forward the request to the Education Committee immediately.

If CPI-related mark-ups are made, it must be so noted in the Agreement with Headquarters, and all marketing material must communicate to members that the price increase is being based on a CPI review and higher expenses in that country.

When Sections request that prices be lowered: In cases where the CPI shows the prices in the host country (not city) to be at least 50% lower than in the U.S., and similar technical courses by similar U.S. organizations are priced lower, NACE will consider lowering its prices. Because the amount of lowered pricing is determined by expenses (and most instructor-related expenses do not fluctuate with CPI), these situations must be determined by the NACE Finance and Education Divisions on a case-by-case basis.
