Call to Action

Legislative Day 2008

In March 2007, Congressman Michael Conaway (R-TX) and Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH), introduced H.R. 1770 – Corrosion Prevention Act of 2007. This bill will provide a tax credit to companies that invest in corrosion control and mitigation technologies. H.R. 1770 directly benefits nearly all owner/operator companies that must protect their assets and businesses from the impact of corrosion, protect the environment, and keep the public safe from the harmful effects of corroding assets. It will also benefit companies that provide corrosion control and mitigation solutions.

H.R. 1770 is the direct result of NACE members participating in previous NACE Legislative Day events in Washington, D.C. Through our meetings with Congressional members and their staff, we have added five co-sponsors for the bill: Representative John Culberson (R-TX), Representative Michael Rogers (R-MI), Representative Jo Bonner (R-AL), Representative Charles Boustany (R-LA), and Representative Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD).

It is critical that we continue with our message to develop a broader base of support for government legislation that supports corrosion prevention technologies and initiatives, including the Corrosion Prevention Act of 2007. Our message continues to gain momentum, as NACE and NACE members continue to raise awareness that corrosion prevention would benefit industry, the environment, and the US economy.

NACE members must stay VISIBLE on this issue with their Representatives and Senators and ensure that future legislation has the votes needed for passage.

This is how it works: NACE members will meet in Washington, D.C. on June 11 (at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill) to learn about the legislative process and have the opportunity to share their perspective and experience with select congressmen. On June 12, attendees will break into teams and (armed with the previous day's training and maps) attend 3 to 5 meetings with members of Congress and their staffs.

What do you need to do?

All attendees must reply in advance to confirm they are attending so that NACE International staff may organize the appointments (in groups of at least 2 persons) with the appropriate Congress members. These appointments must be made in advance.

Deadline to sign-up: May 28, 2008
