NACE International Executive Director, Tony
Keane stated:
“As a nation we are long overdue in encouraging and supporting corrosion control and, as Executive Director, I am enthusiastically supportive of H.R. 1770, The Corrosion Prevention Act of 2007. This is an environmental issue, it is an economic issue and it is a job retention issue. Structures deteriorating or failing from corrosion cost the U.S. economy 3% of its GDP annually. Corrosion wastes resources, results in environmental contamination and costs jobs when companies find it less expensive to relocate the business instead of rebuilding the facilities that have failed. H.R. 1770 will provide financial incentive to companies when they implement effective corrosion control plans for construction of new structures and maintenance of existing structures. The net result will be the creation and retention of jobs, the overwhelming positive impact on the environment and the regaining of a global competitive advantage for many industries.”
