Welcome to the 2007 Tri-Service Corrosion Conference: the Department of Defense Corrosion Conference! This conference is held every two years in various locations throughout the United States. This yearís conference will take place from December 3 - 7, 2007, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Denver, Colorado. The theme of this year's conference is "Integrating Corrosion Prevention and Control in Policy, Planning, and Programming."

Continuing the tradition from the very first Tri-Service Corrosion Conference which has been held every second or third year since1967, the technical lead of the conference is rotated among the Military Departments. This year's technical lead is the United States Air Force.

Denver Skyline at DuskStarting in 2005, the conference purpose was expanded from an equipment corrosion prevention research and development to equipment, infrastructure, and policy with participants from the Services, Defense Agencies, Coast Guard, NASA, Allied partners, academia, and industrial sectors. Therefore, it has been deemed prudent that the name of the conference be changed from Tri-Service Corrosion Conference effective with the 2009 DoD Corrosion Conference, held from August 3 – 7, at the Gaylord National in Washington, DC.

This year's conference will have three parallel tracks offering the flexibility to attend sessions on those topics of most interest to you. Some of the latest advances in corrosion prevention and control technology and review of jointly funded Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Military Departments will be discussed in some detail and new applications of this technology will be featured. At the same time, the larger and more cosmopolitan community of attendees offers an excellent networking opportunity for both government and industrial participants.

Some specific events of interest will be an international corrosion panel and a corrosion education panel, as well as, keynote presentations from officials from the Department of Defense, NACE International, and the Congress. In addition, the DoD Corrosion Forum will meet Monday morning and Friday afternoon before and after the conference begins and ends. The Air Force Office of Scientific Research will also conduct concurrent sessions during the week. Other events include tours, a free afternoon before the Wednesday evening banquet, and a wide range of corrosion prevention, control, and mitigation exhibits.

Your attendance and participation at this year's conference is vital to your involvement in corrosion prevention and control as well as to the success of the conference itself. I look forward to seeing you in Denver in December.

Sincerely,

Daniel J. Dunmire
Special Assistant for DoD Corrosion Policy and Oversight
Tri-Service 2007 Conference Chair
