2008 Research In Progress
Symposium—
Call for Papers
The 2008 Research in Progress Symposium, chaired
by Douglas Hansen (University of Dayton Research Institute),
and vice-chaired by Srdjan Nesic (Ohio University) and sponsored
by the NACE Research Committee, chaired by Rudy Buchheit (Ohio
State University) will take place in conjunction with CORROSION
2008 Conference & Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana, March 16-20,
2008.
The Research in Progress Symposium provides
a forum for the presentation of information and ideas derived
from current or recently completed basic research on select topics
as well as opportunities for discussion of these presentations.
Four sessions will be held and will include invited and contributed
presentations.
Corrosion in High Resistivity Media
Submissions are sought that address corrosion processes in high resistivity media including, but not limited to, corrosion in organic solvents and corrosion under atmospheric conditions. Presentations that focus on either test methodologies and data analysis or the characterization of specific degradation processes are welcome.
Session Chair:
Dave Enos (Sandia National Laboratories)
Passivity and Localized Corrosion
Papers concerning recent research in passivity and localized corrosion in all forms (including mechanisms of passivation, breakdown, pitting, crevice corrosion, intergranular attack and any applications thereof) are solicited. Contributions highlighting alloys and treatments to improve passivity and resistance to localized corrosion, as well as papers describing novel and innovative approaches for studying these areas, are welcome.
Session Chair:
Dave Kolman (Los Alamos National Lab) Session Vice Chair:
Marta Jakab (Southwest Research Institute)
Coatings and Inhibitors
This session will cover fundamental aspects of surface treatments such as replacements for chromate conversion coatings, anodizing treatments, metal coatings, chromate-free inhibiting pigments and protective polymer coatings. Also of interest are mechanistic studies of soluble and vapor phase inhibiting species.
Session Chair:
Jerry Frankel (Ohio State University)
Modeling and Critical Experiment
Papers covering the field of corrosion modeling are solicited. Modeling is defined here in a very broad sense, covering: critical experiments, physico-chemical modeling, mathematical tools including statistics, numerical techniques and software. Contributions highlighting any of these aspects of corrosion modeling, particularly those describing novel and innovative approaches are invited.
Session Chair:
Srdjan Nesic (Ohio University) Session Vice Chair:
Wei Sun (ExxonMobil)
Submitting an Abstract
Prospective authors wishing to present a paper should submit a paper title, complete author contact information, and an abstract (maximum 200 words) by December 15, 2007. CLICK HERE
If accepted, by the session chair, an extended abstract will be requested by January 14, 2008. Please be aware that space is limited and policy dictates that the same paper cannot be submitted for consideration for multiple sessions.
