Research Topical Symposium
Research Topical Symposia were introduced in 1996 with the objective of strengthening communications between the corrosion science and engineering communities. Symposium topics have to satisfy two criteria: (1) corrosion degradation phenomena that have an extremely high economic impact, and (2) a mitigating action or solution to the problem that has not been effectively “reduced to practice” because of a lack of fundamental knowledge.
Corrosion in Nuclear Waste Systems
Symposium Chair: Fraser King, Integrity Corrosion Consulting
Symposium Co-Chair: David Shoesmith, University of Western Ontario
Monday, March 17
9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The symposium will cover Corrosion of High Level Nuclear Waste Containers, Spent Fuel Corrosion; Corrosion in Storage Containers for Transuranic Elements (Plutonium), Corrosion in Liquid Waste Tanks; Microbially Influenced Corrosion in Nuclear Waste Systems; The Use of Natural Analogs to Validate Long-Term Waste Disposal Scenarios; and Corrosion Issues from the Perspective of the Independent Reviewer and the Regulator. |
