2007 Research In Progress Symposium—Call for Papers

The 2007 Research in Progress Symposium, chaired by David Kolman (Los Alamos National Laboratory), vice-chaired by Douglas Hansen (University of Dayton Research Institute), and sponsored by the NACE Research Committee, chaired by Rudy Buchheit (Ohio State University) will take place in conjunction with CORROSION/2007 in Nashville, Tennessee, March 11-15, 2007.

The Research in Progress Symposium provides a forum for the presentation of information and ideas derived from current or recently completed basic research on select topics as well as opportunities for discussion of these presentations. Three sessions will be held and will include invited and contributed presentations.

Technical Basis for Long Term Storage

The safe, long-term storage and disposal of nuclear materials is a significant concern. Papers involving recent advances in the technical basis for long term storage and disposal of nuclear waste are solicited. Papers dealing with all aspects of the modeling and testing of materials for long-term storage and disposal are welcome, including experimental studies of all forms of corrosion of active and passive container materials and novel techniques for taking into account variability and uncertainty and appropriate levels of conservatism in lifetime predictions.

Session Co-chairs:
Doug Wall (Sandia National Laboratories)
Fraser King (NOVA Chemical Corp.)

Green Technologies for Corrosion Mitigation

Papers are sought on various areas related to approaches for corrosion control that are environment-friendly, including low toxicity, low volatility and biodegradable methods. Areas include scale and corrosion inhibitors, paints, conversion coatings, water treatment, rebar in concrete, MIC, and welding, with a focus on chemistry, mechanism of action, or application.

Session Chair:
Gerald Frankel (Ohio State University)

Passivity and Localized Corrosion

Papers concerning recent research in passivity and localized corrosion in all forms (including mechanisms of passivation, breakdown, pitting, crevice corrosion, intergranular attack and any applications thereof) are solicited. Contributions highlighting alloys and treatments to improve passivity and resistance to localized corrosion as well as papers describing novel and innovative approaches for studying these areas are welcome.

Session Chair:
Douglas Hansen (University of Dayton Research Institute)

Authors wishing to submit contributed presentations must submit the title of the presentation, complete authors' names (no first initials), affiliations, addresses, telephone, fax, and e-mails plus a short abstract to the symposium chair no later than December 1, 2006. If accepted, by the session chair, an extended abstract must be sent to NACE by January 11, 2007. Please be aware that space is limited and policy dictates that the same paper cannot be submitted for consideration for multiple sessions.
