Description

Candidates meeting the prerequisites can sit for the Cathodic Protection Technician Certification Exam without taking the CP 2–Cathodic Protection Technician course. The Exam Only Option consists of the same 2-hour written exam and hands-on practical exam which are offered in the CP 2–Cathodic Protection Technician course. Exam-only candidates will be sent a CP 2–Cathodic Protection Technician course manual at the time of registration. Examinations will be offered the last day of the regularly scheduled CP2–Cathodic Protection Technician Course Offering.

Prerequisites

For each path, all prerequisites must be met in order to apply for the Exam-only Option. Candidates have 3 Paths from which to choose. If choosing to take the exam only option for certification, please note that candidates must also have training which is equivalent to the training presented in the CP 2-Cathodic Protection Technician course. An approved application is required before certification is issued

Path 1

3 years CP work experience

PLUS

High school diploma or GED including algebra and logarithms training
Training equivalent to the training which is presented in the CP 2–Cathodic Protection Technician course

Path 2

1 year CP work experience

PLUS

4-year physical science or engineering degree

PLUS

Training equivalent to the training which is presented in the CP 2–Cathodic Protection Technician course

Path 3

2-year post high school training from an approved math or science technical/trade school including algebra and logarithm training

PLUS

2 years CP work experience
Training equivalent to the training which is presented in the CP 2–Cathodic Protection Technician course

Exam-Only Option

Qualified candidates may sit for the Cathodic Protection Technician Certification Exam without taking the class. The written exam is open book so that candidates can bring their own references, however the practical exam is closed book. Due to difficulty level of the Exam Only Option, along with the Prerequisites/Work Experience listed for the CP 2–Cathodic Protection Technician Course, NACE strongly recommends that individuals have prior CP training that is equivalent to CP 2–Cathodic Protection Technician Course. Contact NACE First Service for more information. Registration fees for exam only candidates are nonrefundable.
