Senior Corrosion Technologist


Description
This certification is geared towards experienced personnel possessing primarily practical knowledge over multiple areas of corrosion and its control, and capable of performing responsible work under the direction of Specialist level personnel, but requiring minimal supervision. 

Work Experience Requirements/Prerequisites
Eight years (four years in responsible charge) verifiable corrosion related work experience
OR
Four years in responsible charge with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Science or Engineering

Application Procedure
An application must be submitted prior to taking the examination only option to allow time for NACE to verify work experience requirements. If seeking certification through the parallel path option, an application may be submitted upon successful completion of the required NACE course(s), for verification of work experience requirements. Examination Option
This 8-hour open-book examination consists of four sections, each having two hours allotted for completion. Each section is composed of problem solving questions each worth multiple points, and "fact" questions worth one point each. The total consists of the sum scores from each section. There is no minimum score for each section.

The open-book examination consists of questions on the following subject areas, in roughly equal proportions: Cathodic Protection, Protective Coatings and Linings, Materials Selection and Design, Inhibitors/Environmental Treatment, Corrosion Causes and Mechanisms, and General Corrosion Topics.

NACE Basic Corrosion OR
NACE Corrosion Technician Certification

Designing for Corrosion Control

Plus one of the following

  • CP Tester Certification
  • CP Technician Certification
  • CP Technologist Certification
  • CP Specialist Certification

Plus one of the following

  • Protective Coatings & Linings I
  • CIP Level I

Plus 1 additional course from either of these two lists.

Plus Chemical Treatment Exam or
Internal Corrosion Exam

Option 2
NACE Corrosion Technologist Certification

Designing for Corrosion Control?under reconstruction

One course from the following list

  • CP Tester Certification
  • CP1-Cathodic Protection Tester Courseand Certification
  • CP Technician Certification
  • CP2-Cathodic Protection Technician Course and Certification
  • CP Technologist Certification
  • CP3-Cathodic Protection Technologist Course and Certification
  • CP Specialist Certification
  • CP4-Cathodic Protection Specialist Course and Certification

OR one of the following

  • Protective Coatings & Linings I
  • CIP Level I

Plus Chemical Treatment Exam or Internal Corrosion Exam 

Recertification
Every three years
Recertification requires a minimum of 1.5 years corrosion work experience and 12 hours per year (36 hours total) of professional development hours.
